VICEREGAL. Government House, Wellington.. August, 12. This morning his Excellency the Governor-General, attended by Captain C. J. Holland-Martin, visited a factory engaged in the production of war material. Mr. N. R. Mclsaac has been elected president of the Dunedin Rotary Club. Mr. J. N. Armour has been elected president of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. J. W. Wood vice-president. Major W. R. Lascelles, Officer Commanding the Ist Battalion, Canterbury Regiment,^ has been granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel. Mr. L. L. Macey, formerly district telegraph engineer in Auckland, who retired in 1937, is to resume duty with the Department as telegraph engineer at Nelson for the duration of the war. Captain T. V. Hill, former master of the Aorangi, has returned to Auckland after recuperating from an illness in Australia. Captain Hill, who is accompanied by Mrs. Hill, retired about four months ago and will reside in Vancouver. "He was a citizen of whom the city might be justly proud," said the Mayor of Lower Hutt, Mr. J. W. Andrews, last evening, in moving that a letter of sympathy be sent to the relatives of the late Mr. T. W. Attwood, who had, among other things, given service to the city in the matter of horticulture.
