PETROL CUT
LACK OF WARNING
EFFECT ON CARRIERS
Complaints have been made by cer» tain of the carrying firms that serious inconvenience and disorganisation of their businesses resulted from the withdrawal of records of oil fuel licences from petrol stations without warning. It was stated; that in some cases motor trucks had had to stand idle for half a day while licences were being adjusted at the office of the District Oil Fuel Controller, whereas, if some, notice had been given, arrangements could have been made for sufficient petrol to cover the waiting period-
"It is recognised that by withdrawing the cards at short notice some inconvenience would necessarily be experienced by certain motor vehicle owners," said the District Oil Fuel Controller, Mr. A. Pellow, in answer to the complaints, "but with a view to reducing the consumption as from the earliest possible moment, it was necessary to begin amending licences without delay. Intimation was given on Monday that the cards had been withdrawn and that licensees would be required to present their licences > for amendment before they could obtain further supplies.
"Generally speaking, there was no undue delay in dealing with these applications, though it. must be admitted that in some instances licensees had to wait some time before it was possible to effect the necessary amendments to their licences. This was due in some cases to unavoidable delay in receiving oil-fuel cards from venders. The amendment of licences is necessarily a large undertaking and the best possible arrangements were made with a view to obviating delay.
"It can confidently be stated that the vast majority of licensees have accepted the position in a most generous manner and very few complaints were made."
