Interviewed today, Sergeant Ward's mother, said that in a letter her son said little about the incident except that he: was ."very careful.' Sergeant Ward left New Zealand.last January. Before the outbreak of war. he was keen on aviation, and was .a member of the Wanganui Model Aero Club.
