(Rec. 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 4. One of England's best-known bookmakers has been laying anything up to £10,000, at even money, that the war will end within a year. The Stock Exchange and Lloyd's are doing likewise.

An early invasion of Germanoccupied countries is favoured by a large section of the Army and the Air Force, but their leaders are opposed to any premature mistimed expeditions against any part of the Continent.
