COTTON PIECE-GOODS
AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT
. The following statement regarding >lhe export of cotton piece-goods from Fthe United bKingdom has been received fby cable by Mr. R. Boulter, his Trade Commissioner, from the Department of Overseas Trade in London: "War considerations necessitated the restriction of supplies of cotton textiles vfrom the United Kingdom .to New Zealand. The United Kingdom cotton industry and the United Kingdom Government regret the need for this restriction and are ■■ anxious to resume full export trade as soon as conditions permit. They fully appreciate the importance of the New Zealand market and the long-standing loyalty of their New Zealand customers. The position has been explained to the Government of New Zealand.
"Recent. Press statements to the effect that supplies in 1941 will be onethird of the^ quantity exported ih 1940 are erroneous. Fresh buying orders placed during the period from May to August may be approximately at this rate but the deliveries already made and in sight may bring the total for 1941 hearer to two-thirds of the 1940 quantity. Firm, orders placed before ■February 28 will in general be completed outside the quota."
