SHOULD TIGHTEN UP
EXEMPTION APPEALS
LABOUR BRANCH'S MOTION
The feelings of one branch of the Labour Party on the question of appeals for exemption from military service are expressed in a resolution seeking a tightening-up of exemptions. The resolution, adopted by the Hampden branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, is as follows:—
"That the branch expresses its keen disappointment in the majority of the decisions of the Armed Services Appeal Board and feels that only in the most extreme cases of public necessity should exemption from military service be allowed, and calls upon the Minister of National Service to tighten up the regulations for exemption immediately; and, further, requests that in the case of all appeals the appellant's name be published."
