CANADA AT WAR
UNITED IN EFFORT
THE COST NOT COUNTED
NEW YORK, June 17,
Canada went to war on Britain's side because it was believed to be the right side, said the Prime Minister (Mr. Mackenzie King), addressing the associated Canadian organisations in New York. He added that it had been asserted that Canada was demanding cash payment for aid to Britain.
"We have told Britain not to worry
about a shortage of Canadian dollars with the enemy at the gates," he said. "There will be time enough to reckon the costs and credits once we know whether the world is slave or free.
"Canada entered the war a united nation. Don't let anyone tell you that •French-speaking Canada is not on the side of freedom. The ancient partnership between French- and Englishspeaking Canadians, sealed by a brotherhood of equality and freedom, is honoured today as an unbroken bond in common patriotic sacrifice." —U.P.A.
