A Benefit Picture Party.
Peace and wartime films of cathedrals in London and Paris were screened this week at Mrs. R. B. Gibbons's home in Khandallah at an evening party in aid of funds for the Khandal-lah-Ngaio branch of the Women's National Reserve. There were 100 guests. The pictures were shown by Mr. Porter. Before members served the supper, Mrs. A. B. Gibbons, president of the branch, thanked those who had helped to arrange the screening. Ngaroma. Croquet Club. The annual meeting of the Ngaroma Croquet Club held recently elected the following officers:—Patron, Mr. Coles; president, Mrs. L. Pickard;' vice-presi-dents, Mesdames F. Laurie, J. Fairley, H. Martin, Gilbanks, E. McKenzie, Morris, Cotton, S. Franks, B. Lippitt, Russell, J. Miller, A. Miller, L. Galvin; secretary, Mrs. B. A. Sargisson; captain, Mrs. E. N. Veitch; treasurer, Mrs. L. McAdam; committee, Mesdames McKay, Roberts, Wade, Frame, Battersby, Whitham, Parker, J. Miller, and Miss McHattie; tea committee, Mesdames McKay (convener), Roberts, Parker; green committee. Mesdames Wade, Battersby, and Whitham; delegates to association, Mesdames Veitch arid Sargisson. *•" High Standard of Work. The annual report of the Anglican Girls' Clubs' Society showed the work during the year to be up to its usual high standard. Members of the Wellington City Club were the winners for the trophy awarded to the club gaining the highest number of points in the show, and they also won the shield for the tennis tournament, and came equal places with St. Mark's in the ping-pong tournament. Miss Lyon (Wellington City) won the Edith Sprott trophy which is awarded to the individual receiving the highest number of points; she also won the cooking trophy and in the handwork competition came equal with Misses Crocker and Hodder, St. Mary's, Karori. The one-act play competition, which was held in St. Mark's schoolroom again proved very popular and was won by St. Aidan's, Miramar for the second year in succession. Air Force Wedding in Auckland. The wedding took place at Pitt Street Methodist Church on Monday evening of Miss Bonna Baynton, younger daughter of Mrs. R. L. Baynton, of Kaikohe, and Pilot Officer E. T. Kippenberger.i Royal New Zealand Air Force, second son of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Kippenberger, of Gisborne. The bridegroom is an instructor at Wigram. The Rev. B. M. Chrystall officiated, states the "New Zealand Herald." The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr. W. McPherson, was attended by her sister, Mrs. W. McPherson, as matron of honour, Miss M. McKinley as bridesmaid, and Colleen McPherson as flower girl. Mr. E. Dowdson was best man and Mr. S. Dawson groomsman. Parcels for Maori Battalion. Two interesting afternoon gatherings were held recently by the Maori Girls' Club, Lower Hutt, one at the Maori meeting house, at which Mrs. Hapi Love presided and Mrs. Mat Love and Mrs.' Wareiti acted as hostesses, and the other at the home of Mrs. Douglas Fraser to procure gifts for parcels to send overseas to the Maori Battalion. . The speaker on both occasions was Mrs. O. M. Shakespeare, who recounted some very thrilling and in- j teresting experiences in China, India, Java, and the Malay States. It was decided to hold regular monthly gatherings of a similar nature on the last Friday of every month for the duration of the war.
