PARLIAMENT
MEETING TOMORROW
THE WAR SITUATION
SHORT PROGRAMME
After an adjournment since March 27, Parliament is to reassemble tomorrow afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock. The decision to call Parliament together earlier than June 25, the date to which the adjournment was taken provisionally, was announced last week by the Acting Prime Minister (Mr. Nash), following the news of the evacuation of the British forces, including the New Zealanders, from Crete. Mr. Nash said that the House would be given every opportunity to learn in as great detail as possible the facts in the posses-
sion of the Government.
The intention is to deal with the war situation in secret session tomorrow night, and if the one night is not sufficient the discussion may be continued in secret the following day.
When the House of Representatives meets in the afternoon tributes will be paid to legislators and former legislators who have died since Parliament was last in session. These are Captain W. J. Lyon, M.P. for Waitemata, whose death in action was announced last week; Sir James Parr, a former Minister of the Crown and a former Leader of the Legislative Council; Sir Charles Luke, a former member Nof the Legislative Council; and Mr. P. McSkimming, former M.P. for Clutha, whose death was reported on Saturday. After tributes to their memory have been paid. the House will adjourn until-the evening.
It is not expected that this stage of the session will last more than a few days. The only legislative measure contemplated is an Imprest Supply Bill to make financial provision for the various State services. Although a formal measure, it will offer members plenty of scope to talk.
On the completion of the business of this part of the session, Parliament is likely to adjourn again until early in July, by which time, according to his recent statement, Mr. Nash hopes to have the Budget ready for presentation.
There is to be a caucus of the Government party tomorrow morning.
