CAUSES POWER FAILURE

CLIMB TO TOP OF TOWER

The action of a Maori youth, Honi Parcawiti, aged 15, of Wellington Road. Paekakariki. in climbing tc the top of a 40ft electricity transmission tower about 5 p.m. yesterday resulted in a power failure which lasted about nine minutes.

Pareawiti was found lying at the foot of the tower and was admitted to hospital in a serious condition last night His condition today was unchanged. He suffered severe bums, injuries to his shoulders, arms, and head, and severe shock. It is believed that Pareawiti climbed to the top of the tower and was thrown down when he came into contact with the power lines.
