ARMS FOR BRITAIN

AMERICAN SUPPLIES GET

THROUGH

(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON,

May 30

Reports presented to Congress declare that only 28 ships carrying war supplies from United States ports have been sunk en route to Britain since the outbreak of the war. Statistics are not available, but legislators said it was safe to assume that the loss ratio of American goods is relatively small. It is pointed out, however, that the sinkings do not include the losses of equipment produced in the United States and sent to Canada for transhipment.

Fear of sabotage on Memorial Day resulted in military and civil guards being summoned overnight to watch the defence plants from coast to coast, says the Associated Press.

Anti-aircraft guns were placed around Californian plane factories and pursuit planes were held ready. Military authorities state that these things are due to tactical manoeuvres.

The San Francisco and Los Angeles waterfronts were patrolled by extra guards.—U.P.A.
