War Affects Petone Tennis Club

The annual wind-up dance and presentation of prizes of St. Augustine's Church Tennis Club, Petone, was held recently. The president, the Rev. H. S. I. Kenney, referred to the difference apparent in the club since the war, many members being absent on military duties. Notwithstanding the many away on active service a comparatively good season had been experienced. Members serving overseas had been remembered by the dispatch of parcels from the club. Mr. Kenney presented trophies to Mrs. V. Pointon and Miss E. Flux, Mrs. Pointon and Mr. K. Hunt, Miss- F. Evans and Messrs. J. Kyle, L. Prichard, and W. Jowett. Mr. Kenney made a presentation on behalf of the club to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lambourne, two club members who were recently married. St. Mary's Guild Meets. Mrs. H. St. Barbe Holland was in the chair for the annual meeting on Thursday of St. Mary's Guild. Mrs. Sprott and other life vice-presidents of the homes were also present. The work of Sister Press, matron of St. Mary's Home, was highly praised by the warden, Archdeacon A. L. Hansell, who spoke of the happy, peaceful spirit in the homes. The Rev. W. Langston also spoke. Sister Dawes, of the Wellington City Mission, gave a talk on the work of the mission and stressed the great need of a hostel to take in young girls and women who require a helping hand.
