GLADYNEV PLEASES
ELLERSLIE TRACK SOFT
(P.A.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
The Great Northern Steeplechase candidate Gar Vaals gave a capital display over the country at Ellerslie this morning. Ridden by M. Ritchie, he completed a round, taking every fence ,in his stride and finishing on in very solid style.
Dividend and Streamline, both of whom are in the Great Northern Hurdles, did strong work on the flat and acquitted themselves in good style. Tidewaiter was sent a couple of rounds on the tan track, but ht was never going faster than half-pace.
Esperance Bay, who has impressed track watchers since he arrived, was not given any serious work. He strode over a round and finished up by sprinting down the straight.
The best trials among the Cornwall Handicap horses were those of Valmint, Gladynev, Sir Cameron, and British Talent, all of whom acquitted themselves well.
The best trials over seven furlongs were those of British Talent, who covered the distance in lmin 30 3-ssec, time which was equalled by Valmint, and Gladynev, who impressed more than Tea Gong. Gladynev finished solidly on the outside. Arctic Dawn shaded Auburn Lad over six furlongs in lmin 17sec, the best of the morning over the distance. Radio Call came home from the half-mile in 50 sec. Bronzo and Bronze Emerald left five furlongs behind in lmin 3 4-ssec, setting the standard for that distance.
