AN ITALIAN CLAIM
$SRec. 2 p.m.) LONDON, May 29. It is stated authoritatively in London that reports from Ankara that a stream of British reinforcements is reaching Crete is misleading. "There is no justification for the use of the word 'stream,'" it is stated. "If we lost Canea the position would be more serious; if we lost Suda Bay it would be even more critical."
The Berlin news agency claimed that the Germans had occupied the town, the harbour, and* the aerodrome at Candia and had captured several hun-
dred British troops.
'An Italian communique announced •that Italian troops landed in Crete yesterday. Signor Gayda said that Italian marines and infantry had landed in eastern Crete, creating a new front against the British, while the German pressure was increasing from the west—U.P.A.
