COASTAL COMMAND REPLY TO CONGRATULATIONS

LONDON, May 29,

In addition to sending a congratulatory message to the Home Fleet, the Admiralty also sent congratulations to the air officer commanding-in-chief Coastal Command, praising the work done in the destruction of the Bismarck. "The Admiralty wish gratefully to acknowledge the part played by the reconnaissance of forces under your command which contributed in a large measure to the successful outcome of the recent operation," it said.

The air officer commanding-in-chief Coastal Command replied: "Your message is very much appreciated, and has been repeated to all concerned. It was a great hunt and we are eager and ready for more"'

The following message has been received by the Admiralty from the Admiral commanding the Free French naval forces: —"In the name of the Free French, I oiler my heartiest congratulations for the splendid achievement of the Royal Navy in sinking the Bismarck."

The Berlin correspondent of the Swedish paper "Tidningen" says that the Bismarck's complement was about 2000—U.P.A.
