The methods of enemy parachutists in Crete were described in an inter-

view with a news agency correspondent in Cairo by a young officer, who told in vivid terms of the first parachutists coming down on a hill-top, perhaps a thousand of them. At least a hundred, he said, were killed before touching the ground, or as they landed.

"Wearing zip-fastened overalls of greenish colour over webbing equipment." he said, "they were finely-built men, but were shaking all over as they were brought in. One whom 1 searched had dropped from 210 feet. Three others who were captured by our men asked to be shot. They said they had had enough of war. Another captured parachutist was 15 years of age. The parachutists' food-containers were filled with chocolate, biscuits, coffee, and whisky, and their objective was to gather at the top of the hill and attack the aerodrome.
