Travel Club Bridge Parties
The members of the Bridge .Circle of the''Wellington Travel, Club have held two bridge parties: recently in aid of patriotic funds. Mrs. G. T. Wilson donated a prize for the highest score won by Mrs. Sydney Vine, and Mrs. E. Casey, Mrs. P. G. Harle, Mrs. J. Southward, and Mrs. A. Bannister have donated the afternoon teas. 101 Candles on Birthday Cake. Mrs. Sundstrom celebrated her one hundred and first birthday anniversary at her home in Westport this week. Many old friends, including the Mayor (Mr. J. M. Robertson) called to offer their good wishes and congratulations. A cake presented to her in honour of the occasion was decorated with 101 candles. Mrs. Sundstrom ax-rived in Westport in 1869. Twenty-first Birthday. Mr. and Mrs. W. Mexted gave a party at their beautiful home at Pahautanui in honour of their eldest son's coming of age. They entertained 120 guests. There were games and dancing, and items were given by Miss Annette Sloane. Miss Richardson, Mr. Dean, and I Mr. Elston. A home-made supper was served under the supervision of Mrs. B. O. AfTlick. Social at the Hutt. The English Counties' Society gave a social at the Returned Soldiers' Hall, Lower Hutt, recently in aid of men of j the fighting services. Miss Violet Roberts and her concert parly, who entertained the guests, were thanked by the committee. Dance music was provided by an orchestra, and those who gave concert items were Misses V. Roberts, Tui Coffey, Sydney Jones, Edna McHaydn, and L. Noble, accompanied by Mr. E. Sharp. Karori Croquet Club's ' Officers. At the annual general meeting of •the Karori Municipal Croquet Club the following officers were appointed:— Patron, Mr. B. Burn; president, Mrs. j W. Gilbert; vice-presidents, Mrs. Mark and Mrs. Tom; honorary secretary, Mrs. I F. C. Tustin; honorary treasurer, Mrs. Sutherland; captain, Mrs. Butcher; j deputy-captain, Mrs. Bradnock; general committee, Mesdames Robson, Dryden, Howel, and Gapes; tea convener, Mrs. Dryden; match committee. Mesdames Tom, Butcher, Bradnock, Easterbrook Smith, and Sutherland; decorating committee, Mesdames Best, Banks, and Sutherland. Londoners' League. The Londoners' League held a very pleasant picture evening recently at the Blind Social Club room. The proI gramme was generously provided by | the Shell Oil Company, and proved of special interest to Londoners, show- ! ing many of London's famous buildj ings, most of which are now in i-uins. |An address was given by the vice-pre-i sident, Mr. Rogers, who outlined the I objects of the league and invited those present to view the excellent work done by members for the relief of airraid .victims. ;
