WOMEN CONFER
W.C.T.U. SUPPORTS
PROTESTS
Individually and in groups, members of the Women's Christian Temperance Union have worked for the welfare of the forces and as well as sending comforts abroad, have given a great deal of hospitality, specially at the union's Seamen's Rest in Timaru and New Plymouth. This was reported by Mrs. Israel, who had returned from'a Dominion W.C.T.U. Convention in Nelson, at the recent meeting of the Wellington Central branch. Comforts had been sent from all over New Zealand. A Gospel was put in each bag sent away. A feature of the convention, Mrs. Israel said, was the number of young people who attended.
Mrs. Sired presided at a meeting of the Wellington W.C.T.U. district executive, which was held at St. David's Church, Upper Hutt. The executive supported the protest made at convention against the recent amendment of the law prohibiting sale of art union and raffle tickets by young people, so as to permit of children of any age to offer such at house doors.
A resolution was passed endorsing the action taken by the ministers of the city to raise money for patriotic funds by direct giving.
