HELD UP BY FLOODS
OPERATIONS IN IRAK
LONDON, May 24,
A Middle East communique states: "In Irak damage to the roads from intensive flooding about the town oi Falluja has caused a temporary pause in our operations in this area. Repairs are proceeding. Meanwhile, the situation remains quiet in the Basra area."
It was earlier announced that the British troops successfully dispersed an, enemy counter-attack which gained a temporary footing on the outskirts of Falluja on May 21. Twenty Iraki rebel officers and 90 other ranks were taken prisoner.
Vichy passes on a Bagdad report that martial law has been proclaimed in the Bagdad and Kirkuk areas.
Today's R.A.F. communique states that the aerodrome at Mosul was machine-gunned and one unidentified aircraft was destroyed and other^ were damaged. A Messerschmitt which attempted to intercept the British bombers did not succeed in preventingthe attack.—U.P.A,
