FIVE-GOAL MARGIN
Although Petone defeated Institute Old Boys by 7 goals to 2, the winners were sorely pressed many times and only bad shooting and lack of combination prevented the score from being more even. There was much Individual brilliance. Stewart, Petone's Inside left, in particular, confounded his opponents with his deceptive tactics, which brought him close to scoring several times. Petone's centre, Leslie, scored four goals, two coming from freekicks. Paterson, on Leslie's right, worked hard and finished with three goals. Green and Latimer scored Institute's two goals, and with Banks did a lion's share of their team's work. Morris, in goal, fielded well and cleared Institute from some tight corners.
