Nationai Reserve Benefits.

The Lyall Bay branch of the Women's National Reserve recently benefited financially from a musical afternoon held at tine home of Mrs. V. Allan, Resolution Street. Those who contributed items were Mesdames Halvorsen and London, Misses Baker, McNatty. Smith, and Malcolm Jones. At the Catholic Services Club. The comfortable rooms occupied by the Catholic Services Club at 126 Cuba Street are becoming more popular with men of the forces each weekend and the number of regular- attenders is steadily growing. More than a hundred

called during the weekend and many who came to tea and dance on Saturday night returned for lunch and tea on Sunday. Their welfare was the responsibility of the girls of the Wellington Catholic Lawn Tennis Association. The association wishes to thank members of all the Catholic tennis clubs for their generosity in supplying provision , for the weeknd and also Mesdames M. Columb and J. McDer mott and Mr. T. Geaney, who donated all the .meat. Thanks are also extended to all the girls who assisted. Music for t.he;dancing was supplied by Misses Hogan. Mary Sullivan, and Z. Mc-Mahon-Box, and men of the Air Force. Maori Entertainment at Trentham. The Hutt Valley Maori Party, under the.management of Mr. and Mrs. M. Love, gave an entertainment at the Salvation Army Hut, Trentham'Camp, recently. The programme, which' was enjoyed by an audience of over 1000 men, included items by the Maori Choir conducted by Mr. T. Love, hakas and musical instruments by male members of the party, canoe songs and poi dances led by Mrs. Lyle, action songs conducted by Miss Rosie Edwin, and items by a steel guitar' orchestra led by Mr, S. Thompson. Other contributions were by Misses Hazel Manihera, Harriet Hough, Margaret Henry, Moko Love, and Messrs. Tip Love and Rata Macke. The Maori party • were thanked by Brigadier Perry, manager of the Hut. Supper was served, The transport for the party was arranged by the Automobile Association. Ngaio Plunket Effort. - A gathering of "Plunket mothers," including all members of the various knitting circles in the district, spent a happy evening recently at the,residence of Mrs. t. G. Fouhy, Ngaio branch president. Those "who contributed to the entertainment included Mesdames Cooley, McArthur, Mudge, Skinner, and Bringans. and M. Browne. Favourite recipes were sold and also many good patterns of different articles, which" all helped to swell the Ngaio funds. A buffet supper was served. Meetings at the Bays. Annual meetings of the British and Foreign Bible Society branches at Island Bay and Karaka-Scorching Bays were held recently. At St. Hilda's Church Hall the Rev. J. R. Neild presided over the Island Bay meeting. Mrs. V. Wakelin gave an address, and songs were sung by Mrs. Ayrton, accompanied by Miss Hendrickson. Officers elected.were: —President, Mrs. M. Vickery; vice-presidents, Mesdames Ireland, McHutcheon, Neild, Swan, Thornley, Wainwright; secretary, Miss Clapson. The residence of Mrs. Eggers was the scene of the Karaka BayScorching "Bay meeting,' which was conducted by Mrs. E. Ardrey; the speakers were the hostess and Mrs. Wakelin. The president, Mrs. Eggers. vice-president, Mrs. Jennings, and secretary, Mrs. E. C. Ardrey, were reelected. Tea Dance on Sunday. On a recent Sunday evening a pleasant tea dance was held in the Majestic Cabaret in aid of the patriotic funds. The dance was organised by Misses Ngaere Rogers, Myrna Rickers, and Joy Wilkins. It went with a swing to music played by the Aotea Serenades and Lauri Paddi'sßand. Nearly 300 dancers were present. Among the guests were Misses Paula Baxter. Dawn Wallburton, Maurine Mustard, Noreen Rowland, Ruby Falconer, Peggy Carter, Jacqueline Milne, Betty Johns, Connie O'Neill, and Colleen and Patricia Ree.
