RECOUNT IN PROGRESS
A staff of 30 is now making the official- recount of the votes in the Mayoral, City Council, Hospital Board, and Harbour Board elections. The start made in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall yesterday morning only got the papers sent in from 73 polling places sorted out, and the recount was still going on today. The first recount to reach finality will be that of the Mayoral contest, and the result, it is anticipated by the Returning Officer, Mr. J. Norrie, may be available tomorrow. The Harbour Boara figures may be ready towards: the end of the week, and the Hospital Board results towards the end of next week. It is possible that four candidates may forfeit their deposits. HOSPITAL BOARD. The election for one representative for the combined district of Upper Hutt Borough and Hutt County, first count, resulted in the return of J. Purvis (C), with 2061 votes. The Labour candidate, H. Lancaster, received 717 votes.
