WAR PRISONERS ESCAPE
SEARCH IN ENGLAND
TWO RECAPTURED
LONDON, May 16,
'Two of five German airmen who escaped last night from an internment camp in north-west England were recaptured near a small town in the moorland country 15 miles from the camp after being at liberty for barely 12 hours.
The hunt for the other three Germans is still going on. Police, military, special constabulary, and members jof the Home Guard are making a systematic search over hundreds of square miles of country. Cars are being examined, and no hide-out is being overlooked.
It is believed that the fugitives hid in goods wagons on a siding near the camp and afterwards split into two parties. It is understood they made their escape through a thick fence of barbed wire.
