Exchange Teachers Entertain,

Matron-in-Chief Present

Mr. and Mrs. J. Mountjoy were the guests of the Wellington Exchange Teachers at the N.Z.E.I. rooms on a recent afternoon. The hostesses were Misses Toppy McElrea and Xess Ryan. Mr. and Mrs. Mountjoy spoke of their experiences during the last two years in England, from where they have recently returned. Concert at Home for Aged Needy. The Wellington Working Men's Club orchestra and concert party, under the baton ol! Mr. F Chapman, commenced its season's operations by providing an evening's entertainment at the Home for Aged Needy recently A full programme of musical items was provided, those who contributed individual numbers being Mesdames E MacKechnie. R Treacy. E. Blake, and Mr. J. A. Arcus (vocal solos). Messrs J Gibson and G. L. Hall (banjo duet) H. Inglis (clarinet solo), C. Johnston (violin solo), and Mrs. A. Stout (elocutionary item.) The matron, Miss M. E. Reeves, supervised the distribution of refreshments to visitors and patients. Miss E. K. Hay Honoured. # A meeting of the Wellington Nursing Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade was held recently, when bedmaking and roller bandaging was practised. Miss A E. Bates, divisional superintendent, on behalf of the members, presented Miss E. K. Hay, divisional secretary for many years, with a leather attache writing case. Mrs. Barltrop also paid a tribute to Miss Hay's work as divisional secretary Miss Hay, who had been promoted to the district staff and had been superintendent of the cadets, was also presented with a fountain pen by Miss T Edwards on behalf of the Wellington Nursing Cadets. A Club With a Special Purpose. The "Y.F.H.," V W.C.A. Forces Hospitality Club, held the first social of its existence on a recent evening at 5 Boulcott Street, when about 80 of its members. attended. The club was formed a few months ago so that girls who wished to help entertain men ol the forces at the weekend would get to know one another, and so create a real home atmosphere for their weekend guests. The club has been a great success up to date, and the following officers have now been elected from among the members:—President. Miss Nan Darby; vice-president. Miss Audrey Knox; secretary. Miss Frances Drake, treasurer. Miss Betty Oxley Any Wellington girl who would like to join the club should do so immediately. A Further Donation. At the May meeting of the Lower Hutt branch ot the Townswomen's Guild (Inc.). the balance-sheet showed a satisfactory balance after a very hard year's work. Following a sug yestion by the president. A demonstration of spinning wool from Hie fleece was given by Mrs Frost, and an excellent oair of seamen's long stockings made from this natural creasy wool were also exhibited. increase in Subscribers. Mist Willis, matron-in-chief, New Zealand Army* Nursing Service, addressed i» recent social gathering of a mbers of the Khandaliah Red Cross sub-centre and presented medallions and certificates. Both she and- Mrs. Wells, the sub-centre's president, congratulated students on a successful year, | Patriotic Funds Benefit. "Little Willie Kean," a novel presentation introduced by Mrs. Kean. caused much merriment and also collected money for the patriotic circle funds, at the recent meeting of the Miramar Townswomen's Guild which was held recently in St. Aidan's Hall. Ar. amusing charade was also presented by the Drama Circle, and an address was given by Brigadier Green on 'Emergency Evacuation." The beautiful flowers with which Mrs. Hutson. convener of the garden circle decorated the hall, were sol., at the conclusion of the meeting and proceeds donated to the patriotic circle's funds. Mrs. Bradstock presided. Death of Pioneers' Daughter j Mrs. Jane McGregor Campion, of Wanganui, who died recently was a daughter of parents who arrived at Wellington from Scotland in the Blenheim in 1840, states "The Post's" representative. She was born in Turakina and educated at St. Mary's Con-i vent in Wellington. She had four sons and three daughters. The daughters are Mrs. C. L. Hanna (Dannevirke). Mrs. Georgetti (London), and! Mrs. W. L. McDonald (Mangamahu). j Brooklyn Bridge Party. A very enjoyable bridge afternoon was .held recently in the Brooklyn Returned Soldiers' Club rooms, Cleveland Street. Among those present were Mesdames McCrone, Wright, Morris, Elias, Alexander, Jones, Fairhall, Mouton, Mansfield. Burgess, Eberhardt (2), Walker, Peacock, Rafter. Newton Lawton. Trim, Anderson, Jameson! Archer, Metcalfe, and Miss Moxham. Eastbourne Guild. The Mayoress, Mrs. E. Wise, presided at the annual general meet-i ing of the Eastbourne branch of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds (Inc.), recently.
