SALVATION ARMY

HEADQUARTERS DESTROYED

A cable received at the headquarters of the Salvation Army in Wellington from General iJarpenter states that the International Headquarters of the organisation in Queen Victoria Street, London, is a total loss through enemy action. There was no loss of life.

It was in the year 1880 that William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, moved his headquarters from Whitechapel to 101 Queen Victoria Street. The original modest suite of offices then occupied extended,to the great pile of buildings found necessary for the rapidly expanding organisation. The loss of its headquarters will be keenly felt by Salvationists and their friends throughout the world.
