THE KILLING OF FERRETS
The Masterton branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, in a letter to the Wellington Acclimatisation Society's meeting last night, pointed out that the ferrets taken during the past twelve months must have run into thousands, as trappers had been receiving up to 12s 6d a skin from the furriers. There •wai a danger of the natural enemy of the rabbit being so depleted that the district would again be overrun by rabbits. The sale of ferret and weasel skins should be prohibited and the bounty at ; present being 'paid by acclimatisation societies should be done away with.
