VALUABLE COLLECTION OF
GOLD AND SILVER
A meeting of the Wellington Metropolitan Women's Patriotic Committee was held yesterday afternoon.
The chairwoman, Mrs. T. C. A. His- I lop, stated that a" splendid response had been made to her appeal for gold and silver articles to augment patriotic funds. A large collection of varied articles, including old jewellery, silver, silver plate, antiques, and other articles of very considerable interest and value had been received. It was decided that art dealers, jewellers, and others interested in Wellington and the other centres be invited to inspect the articles and ofTcr competitive prices. KNITTING AND SEWING. Since work commenced on the making of hussifs 11,012 have been con/ pleted, and the following knitted garments have also been made:—Scarves. 3980; mittens, 10,895 pairs; balaclavas, 5014; gloves, 878 pairs; pullovers, 122; socks 277 pairs. , . It was stated that the. number, of knitters had increased but. there are still: supplies of wool available and those willing to assist in this work can obtain wool and official patterns on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Metropolitan patriotic Committee's rooms, 95 Wakefield Street. .■■.■.
