PAGEANT OF EMPIRE
i The Pageant of Empire, presented in the Town Hall Concert Chamber last evening for patriotic purposes, is an, ambitious affair. In a series of tableaux and scenes it sketches the history of the British Empire from, the time of the introduction of Christianity down to, the present fateful1 days, both the prologue and the .epilogue being staged against a background'representing- the evacuation from Dunkirk; After ttre landing of the early missionaries in Saxon times, King John is: seen: signing; Magna Carta. Queen Elizabeth and Shakespeare figure in. the following tableaux, the latter speaking some apposite, lines-from his "King John." The growth of the English,' Parliament is depicted in other scenes, and the pageant concludes with grand tableau with Britannia as the central figure. Appropriate songs,arid dances are introduced at intervals throughout the programme, the whble being a very laudable" effort- on behalf of a
