WATER FOR GREATER WELLINGTON
Concrete development might have to mark time during the war, said Mr, L. S.1 McKenzie (Citizens) at Hataitai; but the City Council and all local authorities about Wellington must get on at once with plans for a greater city and greater population of the whole metropolitan area. Water, supply and drainage were the first consideration, not only for the city and Hutt Valley, but also for the Johnsonville-Porirua area. Co-operation among all authorities was essential. The Johnsonyillc-Porirua district must expand greatly and that would necessitate a main pipe line on their side of the hill and on to Wellington. Such a main would have as a second purpose an essential alternative supply should the Hutt Road mains be blocked or damaged. The Hutt Valley boroughs must soon return to. the major scheme.
