NOT DEBT RIDDEN

CITY OF LOWER HUTT

"In the course of ah expression of appreciation of the services rendered by members, and the staff of the Lower Hutt City Council during the past three years, the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, said that as a result of perusal of a comparative table prepared by the City Treasurer; he believed he was safe in saying that Lower Hutt had the lowest debt per head of population and per acre of any local body in the Dominion of 7000 or over population. He could safely say that no other large centre could come anywhere near Lower Hutt in this regard and he could also say that Lower Hutt was among the lowest rated local bodies, in New. Zealand. *

He attributed this to the careful administration by both the council and its officers and for this he wished to thank them. \

Councillor E. P. Hay said he had been asked by the Deputy Mayo;r to express to Mr. Andrews, the council's appreciation. of his work as Mayor. He was sure no other Mayor could equal Mr. Andrews in his, zeal, sacrifice of time^ and sacrifice of means. Mr. Andrews had set a very high standard indeed, and as for Mrs. Andrews, he could only say that not only the council but every resident was proud to have her for Mayoress.
