SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

.The annual"•meeting of the Wellington Syniphony Orchestra was held on Monday last. The. president, Mrs. E. M. Gilmer, said that it had been extremely difficult to get players together owing to war conditions, but a subscription concert . would be given in about three months to complete the season. The thanks of the society were due to its conductor, Mr. Leon de Mauny, for maintaining the quality of ttie performances and overcoming difficulties. Sympathetic reference was made to the death of Ava Symons, and it was announced, that a fund had been established for a memorial trophy to be awarded annually to a violinist winning a competition to be conducted by the "Wellington Competitions Society.

The following officers were elected:— Vice-patron, Professor Shelley; president, Mrs. E^ M. Gilmer; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. A. Ewen and W. M. Page; conductor, Mr. Leon de Mauny; hon. solicitor, Mr. W. P. Pringle; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. E, Rolfe; hon. secretary, Mr. C. McAllister; executive council, Messrs. J. Dick, T, J. Young, E.
