MR. MCKEEN AGREES

, The Municipal Conference, by a yery large majority, decided that the elections should, be held in rthe ordinary way, said Mr. R; 7fcKeen, the Labour candidate for the Mayoralty, at Newtown last night, and he believed that the affairs of a big city should go .on, and that its development should not stand still because of the war. Indeed, the war brought' new problems even in municipal government, and the position during the coming three ,years must be viewed in a post-war perspective.

"However, while I agree that the elections should be held, party strife in the circumstances that exist at present should be kept in the background as much as possible, and as far as my colleagues and myself are concerned our aim is for public interest and welfare before party politics."
