CONSTRUCTION IN AUSTRALIA

THREE TO START AT ONCE

(Rec. 9.50 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Ap. 30.

Recommendations for the immediate construction in Australia of three oversea merchant ships of 9000 tons each are contained in the first report of the Shipbuilding Board, Senator1 McBride, Minister of Supply, said today. Senator Mcßride has ordered the building of at least 60 ships capable of long-range voyages. The first three will be built in New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia respectively.

The board foresees no insuperable obstacles to the construction of the ships -within a reasonable period.— U.P.A.
