GROWTH OF BRITISH NAVY

The rebuilding of the British Navy was described by Mr. R.. Darroch, secretary of the Wellington branch of the Navy League in an address to the pupils of St. Mark's Church recently. Since the King George V, the first British battleship to be launched for 13 years, left the builders' slip in February, 1939, six battleships and five aircraft carriers had been laid down, launched, or commissioned. In addition, thousands of other warships—cruisers, destroyers, mine-sweepers, and patrol vesselshad been laid down in British shipyards throughout the world. It would be the duty of .the" children of today to, maintain the supreme air force" and navy of the future. He quoted Princess Elizabeth's words in her broadcast to ■ the children of the Empire: "When peace comes, remember it will be'for us, the children of today, to make the world of 'to»orrow ft better and, happier ..place.".
