FLAG FOR SCHOOL
All the pupils of Putara School, near Eketahuna. having joined the Navy League, the president of the Wellington branch of the league. Sir Charles Norwood, presented a Union Jack to the school on Saturday afternoon. The presentation was made on behalf of the league's Wellington and Masterton branches. Sir Charles was accompanied by Lady Norwood, the president of the Masterton branch, Mrs. S. Gawith. the Misses Sellar and Mrs. Michael of the Masterton executive, the chairman of the New Zealand Navy League War Council. Mr. Gordon Reid, and the secretary, Mr. R. Darroch. Mr. T. Hancock, chairman of the Putara School Committee, presided. Sir Charles mentioned the co-opera-tion between the Navy, the Merchant Navy, and the Air Force in guarding Britain's seaways, while a mightier Army and Air Force were built up to crush those evil elements which would destroy xthe Empire's freedom, liberty, as well as Christianity. Other speakers were Mr. Reid, who ' gave details of the War Council's work, and Mr. R. Darroch, who explained the meaning of the Union Jack and that for which ft stood.
