MINISTER'S HOPE
The total membership of the Home Guard in New Zealand is now 98,500. This was announced today by the Minister of National Service (Mr. Semple).
"We set out to get 100,000 members >f the Home Guard," said the Minis;er," and we shall have them before ihis month is over."
Referring to the part taken by the Home Guard units in the parade in Wellington on Saturday afternoon, Mr. Semple said he hoped that when the next parade was held the Home Guard would have uniforms and equipment.
"That was all that was missing in the parade on Saturday," added the' Minister, "and it was due to influences over which the Government has no control. Every effort humanly possible is being made to put that right."
