FORCES NEAR DESSIE
150-MILE BRITISH ADVANCE
DIFFICULT COUNTRY
LONDON, April 18,
British forces in Abyssinia are now in contact with the enemy 14 miles south of Dessie, one of the few strongholds in Abyssinia still in Italian hands.
Describing their 150-mile advance from Addis Ababa to Dessie, today's Cairo communique says that the troops have had to negotiate extremely difficult country and blockages requiring extensive demolition operations. Satisfactory progress is also being made by British troops advancing south and south-west of Addis Ababa and north to Neghelli.
During these advances many more prisoners have been taken. They include an Italian, General Graziosi, who was wounded and is now in hospital at Addis Ababa.
Patriot activities continue throughout Abyssinia.
It was revealed today that South African forces rounded up 700 Italians recently in their advance from Addis Ababa to Dessie.
