LADY BADEN-POWELL
MESSAGE TO SOUTH AFRICAN
VETERANS
"The fact of this being shared bycountless numbers. of Scouts ,and Guides and other friends the world over does, however, help Quite a lot to lighten the burden of personal grief," Lady Baden-Powell, widow of Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movements and late Chief Scout, has written to the Wellington South African War Veterans' Association, in reply to a message of sympathy, sent at the time of Lord Baden-Powell's death. Lady Baden-Powell's reply: was; written in Kenya, East Africa, about two months ago.
In a personal message to- South African war veterans in New Zealand, which accompanied the ; letter to the association, Lady Baden-Powell wrote:
"I am sending you a tiny note of thanks for the kind message you sent to me last month when my beloved husband died, but I feel I must just add these few lines to tell you that I was much touched at your thinking of me in this way; and my sad time, and to ask you, too,;to give my thanks to members of your group of South African war veterans in Wellington.
"I shall never forget the kind welcome that was shown to us. when we visited New Zealand, and I appreciate now most fully the friendly message of sympathy you sent from your members."
