CHANGES THIS WEEK
STERLING EXCHANGE POSITION
Movements in the Reserve Bank statement of assets and liabilities for the week ended April 14 show a comparatively . slight decline of £14,924 in -sterling exchange funds, expressed in New Zealand currency. The amount is £19.535.794 18s. compared with £12,882.659 as at April 15, 1940. The bank-note issue this week at £21.901,755 shows' an increase of £180.636. whereas tor the corresponding week of last year it was £17,967.522. Demand liabilities to the. State this week are £8.206.835, a fall' of £291,488. and to the banks £12.252,387, which are also lower and that by £437.806; but at this time last year these liabilities were £6.877.069 and £14,553,506 respectively. Advances by the Reserve Bank to the State for purposes other than marketing are shown at £ 15.500J000, at which they have stood since March 17. 1941, when they were reduced from £20:565,000 The statement ol the assets and liabilities is aIJ in New Zealand currency including sterling exchange, and is a? follows:— LIABILITIES.
