DEATH OF BRIGADIER ANDREW

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day
The death has occurred of BrigadierGeneral Albert William Andrew, C.M.G. He was the son of the late Mr. John Richard Andrew, of Christchurch, and was born in 1866. He joined the Essex Regiment at the age of 20 and transferred to the Indian Civil Service in 1889. He. became a captain of the Indian Army. in. 1897 and rose to the ranks of ma^or (1904) and lieutenant-colonel (1912). He served in the South African War, being mentioned in dispatches and was.awarded the Queen's Medal with five, clasps. He fought through the European War (1914-18), being again mentioned in dispatches and honoured with the C.M.G. He retired from the Army in 1920, returning to New Zealand. He became honorary chief commissioner of the New Zealand Boy Scouts' Association in 1922.
