SUCCESSOR NAMED

SINGAPORE. April 7.

Sir Charles Vyner Brooke, the Rajah of Sarawak, has nominated his brother, Mr. Bertram W. Brooke, as heir. Sir Charles has relinquished absolute power and intends to form a legislative council.

The government of Sarawak, a State on the north-west coast of Borneo, was obtained in 1842 from the Sultan of Brunei by the late Sir James Brooke, who became well known as Rajah Bi"- _c of Sarawak. Mr. B. W. Brooke is Special Commissioner for Sarawak in England.
