GREEK HONOUR
Defence to the Last Man
ATHENS, April 6. The King issued a proclamation stating:—
"The Greeks will defend their honour to the last man. The mighty British Empire and the United States are on our side. We are fighting side by side with our brothers, the Yugoslavs. We will win, with God's blessing."
The proclamation added: "The German Minister called on the Premier at 5.30 a.m. and notified him that the German army would attack Greece. Simultaneously, information from the front showed that the German threat, had been put into effect. Thus, at dawn on April 6, 1941, the other member of the Axis has repeated the events of the night on October 28. 1940. Before this new attack on Ihe honour, liberty, and integrity of our country, the Greek army and people are again called on to do with power, magnanimity, and firmness their duty to (he Fatherland, confident thai they are in the right, and with the blessing of God and the help of our valiant allies."
Large crowds gathered at military headquarters and cheered the King, the Premier, and generals as they entered the building.
