CLOUDY AND MILD

INCREASING NORTHERLIES

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Northerly winds becoming strong and gusty.

Weather cloudy and mild, but some light rain possible tonight or early tomorrow.

The further outlook is for changeable weather of the westerly type.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for winds from a westerly quarter. They will be mainly moderate in force; but strong to high winds are likely at times in the Auckland Peninsula and in and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. In and west of the main ranges the weather will be changeable, with periods of showers and fair or fine intervals. In eastern districts it will for the most part be fair to fine, but scattered showers will extend at times to Southland, Otago, and South Canterbury. Temperatures will be moderate.

An anticyclone remains centred over the northern Tasman Sea, while the first of a series of westerly depressions has passed off the Dominion. Another and deeper one is approaching from the south Tasman Sea. Southwesterly winds predominated yesterday and in many places were fresh to strong. The weather in most districts was cloudy with light showers, and temperatures were cool to moderate.

Brief showers and fair to cloudy conditions characterised lhe weather in all four main centres yesterday. In Auckland there was a strong southwesterly wind which reached gale force at times, but in the other centres winds were moderate in force. Showers in Wellington after 9 a.m. totalled one point of rain, and there were 3.3 hours of bright sunshine, chiefly in the afternoon. Temperatures ranged between 61 and 45.6 degrees.
