IN SHORT SUPPLY
RAW MATERIALS
EFFECT ON SECONDARY
INDUSTRIES
ECONOMIC BLOWS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April. 1. An indication that secondaryindustries are approaching a period when their efforts will be restricted through shortage of raw materials was given by the Minister of Labour (Mr. Webb) when addressing a meeting of miners at the Renown Collieries. The Minister referred to the crisis facing the farming community because much primary produce might not nnd a market. Farmers could rest assured, he said, that their burden would not be carried by them alone but would be shared by the rest of the community. He was certain an economy would be evolved that would protect the farmers over the crisis. "Secondary industries will also find it difficult to continue operations on a full-time basis because of the problem of obtaining raw materials from overseas," continued the Minister. "Those industries must also be protected. In fact, the war has now reached the economy of New Zealand with a vengeance but, with a united people determined on making any sacrifice necessary to win the war, the difficulties will be overcome."
