ARRIVAL IN AUSTRALIA

' SYDNEY,- February! 27. : Two Arnericaii'naval officers -who have been appointed to important new posts in-Australia have arrived in Sydney, They are Commander Lewis D. Causey, who has beeri^appointed naval attache to the American Legation at Canberra, and Commander . Commander Causey said that he talked with' "he- Com'mander-in-Chief of the U.S. Navy at Hdnolulu and with his' Chief of Staff. They: were' extremely busy, but did riot seem nervous over th eposition in the' Pacific. They said... thai the American... ; fleet .w..as in good shape. . . ; "We in America want to cement our •relat'ons- with Australia," said ; Commander Causey, "We like each other now, but we hope to lik.-- each other better in the future. In the United States we have heard a lot about the Australian Navy. The exploits of your cruiser Sydney, r sinking the Italian cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni, are well known. Everyone who meets the Australian Mi iste. (Mr. Casey) in Washington likes him." ■ Commander Causey, who is tall, wellbuilt, and grey-haired, said that he retired from the U.S. navy nine years ago. and went farming in Louisiana. "Most sailors want to go farming when they leave the sea," he said. "I was recalled to active duty on November 15, and early this year received this appointment. I have had experience in most branches of the U.S. Navy, but I have specialised in submarines. I commanded a submarine in the Great War."
He is accompanied by an aide, Chief Ycpman George S. Corbell. Commander Marshall Collins is on his way to Darwin as U.S. Naval observer, accompanied by Mrs. Collins and his aide, Chief Yeoman R. H. Cline.
