TE ARO BATHS
SUGGESTION TO COUNCIL
SWIMMERS' MOVE
1 During a discussion at last night's meeting .of the Wellington Centre of the Amateur Swimming Association on the question of repairs to the Te Aro Baths, a proposal was made that the centre partition should be removed, thus forming a single pool suitable for mixed bathjng. It was pointed out 'that the piles in this partition were unsafe, being rotted above and probably below the water-line, and that the suggestion was not a revolutionary step as there were few baths in New Zealand nowadays which did not cater for mixed bathing. A sub-committee was appointed to confer with the City Council on the subject, bearing'in mind the serviceability and economy of repairs and advocating mixed bathing facilities, and provision of a children's pool, and flood lighting. Diving boards, preferably three metres, were recommended for the Thorndon Baths.
The question of a tepid bath has not been allowed to drop, and although any building activity must be postponed for the duration of the war suitable plans ~are to be discussed.
March 1 and Easter Monday were approved as the dates for the Wellington Club carnival and the University swimming tournament respectively. ■'.-'■■ >
The seventh round of the water polo competitions, postponed last week, is to be played this weelc.
