URGENT MATTER

BUILDING OF SHELTERS

SYDNEY, February 15,

The national- emergency services committee of the city council has decided to build air-raid shelters immediately on selected city sites. The decision was made at a special meeting called because of the seriousness of the international situation. City council workmen will be withdrawn from all other construction jobs to start building the shelters on Monday. The Acting Prime Minister, Mr. Fadden, stated that the Government was engaged in a defence stocktaking, and in any emergency there would naturally be the closest co-operation between Australia and New Zealand.
