AT EVANS BAY

DELIGHT WINS HARBOUR RACE

- After a few weeks of heavy weather yachtsmen found the brisk southerly breeze on the harbour on Saturday and yesterday much to their liking. Thirteen centreboarders started in. the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Club's harbour race for the Steel Cup yesterday. The course was a . long one, leading from Evans Bay to the southern blinker and back, but fast times were made. Delight, off scratch, was the winner. The race started at 10.35 a.m. Results, showing handicaps, sailing and corrected times, are as follows: — Delight (scr), 12h 42m 28s, 12h 42m 28s 1 Nukumai (llmin), 12h 54m 475, 12h 43m 473 2 Spitfire (Bmin), 12h 52m 2s, 12h 44m 2s 3 Kitty (scr), 12h 46m 575, 12h 45m 575, 4; Manahau (12y 2 min), 12h 58m 425, 12h 46m 12s, 5; Mercury (15min), In 3m 18s, 12h 48m 18s, 6; Kio (4min), 12h 57m 38s, 12h 53m 38s, 7; Torment (19min), lh 18m 17s, 12h 59m 17s, 8; Swallow (lomin), lh 14m 535, 12h 59m 535, 9; Irene (19min), lh 19m 255, lh 0m 255, 10; Surprise (16min), lh 17m 14s, lh lm 14s?, 11; Riptide and Belvedere took the mark till wrong way off Seatoun and were disqualifldd. The race on Saturday for the Canterbury Yacht Club's trophy was won by Delight, after a hard and close tussle with' Kitty, in a stiff southerly. The race started at 3.20 p.m., finishing times and order being:— Delight (scr), 4h 36m 575, 4h 36m 575, 1; Kitty (scr), 4h 38m Bs, 4h 38m Bs, 2; Kio (2min), 4h 46m 2Ss, 4h 44m 28s, 3. The race for the Otago Yacht Club trophy for Idle Alongs was won by Spitfire; the start was at 3.30 p.m.. and finishing times and order were: Spitfire (3%mlnK 4h 39ni 295; 4h 36m 32s 1; Belvedere (i^min), 4h 3Sm 555, 4h 37m 255, 2. Riptide (scr) did not finish. The Takapunas also started in a race on Saturday, but Nukumai capsized off Kio Bay and the race was abandoned.
