MUCH WORK DONE
NORTHLAND'S PATRIOTIC EFFORT
MR. AND MRS. FRASER'S LEAD
Last week the Prime Minister, and Mrs. Fraser lent their home in Northland for a musicai evening, proceeds from which went to the Northland patriotic effort for the combined queens in the district's carnival. An interesting programme of chamber music was presented by a trio comprising Miss Dorothy Davies (piano), Madame Greta Ostova )'cello), and Mr. Maurice Clare (violin), and by Mrs. Anna Ginn (soloist). Mr. and Mrs. Fraser welcomed an audience of about 80 to listen to the music. Fires warmed the reception rooms, which were gay with hydrangeas and magnolias. Miss Davies and Madame Ostova gave piano and cello solos and Mrs. Ginn a bracket of songs. , The Northland patriotic committee plans to entertain at an afternoon of popular music next Saturday and Mr. and Mrs. Fraser have again kindly consented to lend their home. GUILD CO-OPERATES. While the patriotic committee is busy with the queen carnival the Northland branch of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild has decided to call a temporary halt to its own work in order that the district should be united in one big effort.
The guild has been given yeoman service by the women of Northland who have provided some thousands of garments. In this work they have been ably assisted by Mr. C. Howard who undertook to pack and deliver their work, and at the most recent meeting of the branch a presentation of a counterpane was made to Mr Howard in appreciation of his unflagging enthusiasm and zeal.
