HUTT QUEEN

CAMPAIGN OPENS WITH A DANCE '

The first entertainment for Mrs. E. T. W. Love, Hutt Valley Queen candidate in Wellington's Victory Queen Carnival, took place on Saturday evening when Mrs. Love was the guest of honour at a large dance given by the Youth Patriotic Campaign of the Valley at the Eva Draper Studio. Mrs. Love, who. had been broadcasting with a company of Rarotongan singers earlier in the evening, arrived with her party when the dance was well in progresfe, and was welcomed by Mrs. J. W. Andrews, Mayoress of Lower Hutt and patroness of the Y.P.C., Mr. Errol Muir (president), and Mrs. Muir. The official party also included Miss Ailsa Ramsden (princess representing the Women's Organisations of the Valley), Ctptain and Mrs. W. Huse, Miss Nola Huse, Miss Betty Lidgett, Lieutenant ,D. Young, and Lieutenant Molyneaux. After supper Mrs. Love spoke briefly, outlining to an enthusiastic audience some of her committee's plans for the forthcoming carnival, and later the party of Rarotongan singers, led by their queen, sang several delightful island songs. There were many original features on the dance programme, and compliments were passed to the' supper conveners, whose excellent organisation showed in a most attractive savoury buffet all donated by the committee and friends of the campaign. The committee comprised Mr. E. Muir and Mrs. Muir, Misses * Muriel Mussen (secretary), Ailsa, Ray and Betty Jones, Eileen and Lois Sullivan, Jean Roberts, Audrey Robins, Mary Beattie, Judy Lewis, Mori Adamson, and Margaret Ogilvie, Messrs. M. Lusty (M.C.), D. Poole (treasurer), K. "Kiddle, K. Carroll, J. Davies, and K. Williams. PROFITABLE "SHOP DAYS." Less spectacular but none the less profitable the "shop days" held every Friday in Lower Hutt by the women of the Valley in support of their Queen have proved a most popular and successful institution, the Mayoress and Mrs. Love's committee starting the ball rolling on the first Friday and the stocking and staffing of the stall in the two succeeding weeks being carried out by the Women's Institute and the women of the National Party respectively.
